Axis Bank statement to Excel: download, password and conversion
Axis Bank offers more ways to get a statement than most banks, including an SMS command and a website form that needs only your registered mobile number and Customer ID. E-statements are password-protected. Here's how to get one, open it, and convert it into a spreadsheet that reconciles.
How to get an Axis Bank savings statement
From Axis Bank's support article (Axis Bank):
Internet Banking: Login > Accounts > select the account > View detailed statement > select the duration > select the format > Get Statement. The statement downloads.
Axis Mobile app: Home > Account > select the account > View Statement or Email Statement.
SMS: from your registered mobile, send ESTMT <last 5 digits of account number> <from date> <to date> with dates in DD-MM-YYYY, for example ESTMT 12345 01-04-2016 30-04-2016, to 56161600 (Axis also lists +919951860002). The statement is emailed.
Website (no login): axis.bank.in/support > Insta Services > Statements > Savings and Agri Account > enter registered mobile number and Customer ID > OTP > select account and duration. The statement is sent to your registered email (Axis Bank).
Monthly e-statements: Axis says e-statements arrive on your registered email within a week of the following month, are password protected, and, once you sign up, cover all your accounts under the same Customer ID as a consolidated statement where you're the first holder (Axis Bank).
What's the Axis Bank e-statement password?
Axis's help article on opening an e-statement gives this format (Axis Bank):
- The first four letters of your name in UPPER CASE, as it appears on the statement (ignore spaces and full stops), followed by four digits of your date of birth.
- Alternative: the same four letters followed by your nine-digit Customer ID.
That article is filed under credit card statements. If it doesn't open a savings statement, follow the instructions in the email that delivered it. For safe ways to open or unlock the file, see password-protected bank statements.
What an Axis statement looks like
Import tools that read Axis statements identify them by these columns: Tran Date, Chq No, Particulars, Debit, Credit, Balance (OwnFi). Axis also publishes a guide to the narrations used in savings statements (Axis Bank, under related questions).
Common pitfalls converting Axis statements
- Consolidated statements. If you've registered for e-statements, one PDF can contain several accounts (savings, FD, RD, current) under your Customer ID. Split by account and reconcile each separately; an FD section is not part of your savings balance.
- The password's date part. "Four digits of your date of birth" doesn't specify the order. If one order (for example DDMM) fails, try the other, then fall back to the Customer ID variant.
- Long Particulars. UPI and NEFT narrations wrap across lines. Merge continuation lines into the transaction above.
- SMS date format. The ESTMT command needs DD-MM-YYYY; other formats won't be understood.
- Indian digit grouping and day-first dates in the output.
The check: opening balance + credits − debits = closing balance for each account, and every row's Balance = previous Balance + Credit − Debit.
Converting an Axis statement with Footed
Footed opens the PDF in your browser; type the password there and it stays on your device, as does the PDF. Only the extracted text is sent for parsing, processed in memory and not stored. Footed checks every row against Axis's Balance column and highlights any row that doesn't agree, which is also how a mixed-up consolidated statement shows itself. Download Excel, CSV or OFX.
