Citibank statement to Excel or CSV
The thing to know about Citi bank statements is that one PDF can cover more than one account. Citi groups accounts onto a common statement, which matters when you convert, because each account has its own opening and closing balance. Here's how to get your statements, including older ones, and how to convert them without mixing accounts up.
How to download a Citi statement
Recent statements: sign on to Citi Online (or the Citi Mobile app), open the account, and go to its statements section to download the PDF.
Older statements: Citi's own Citi Online tutorial (written for card accounts, using the same Statements (PDF) area) describes the process (Citi tutorial PDF):
- Click the Statements (PDF) link.
- Recent statements download directly: choose the date and format, then Download.
- If a statement isn't listed, use Older Statements: select the year and month and click Request.
- Check back after 48–72 hours, click Ready for Download, and save the PDF. Requested older statements are only available for 7 days.
For bank accounts, Citi's app terms say archived account statements become available within 24–72 hours of your request (Citi). Two exceptions worth knowing: online statements aren't available for all accounts, and the paperless statement service isn't available for business bank accounts managed through Citi Online (Citi).
Citi Online also lets you download account activity into software like Quicken (Citi Online reference guide), which may be simpler for recent months.
What a Citi bank statement looks like
From Citi's Consumer Deposit Account Agreement (Citi CDAA):
- Several accounts can share one statement. Citi may combine accounts on a common Account Statement ("Customer Statement Grouping") based on ownership, account titles, paperless preferences and mailing address. Changing paperless preferences can change which accounts appear together.
- A statement period is any 28-to-31-day period, and in many cases you can ask Citi to change your statement date.
- CD and IRA customers with no other deposit accounts don't receive Account Statements at all.
- Check images for cancelled checks from the past 18 months are available in Citi Online.
Common pitfalls converting Citi statements
- Mixing accounts. A combined statement contains, for example, a checking section and a savings section, each with its own beginning and ending balance. Converting it into one table produces a ledger that can't reconcile. Split by account first, and reconcile each account on its own.
- Transfers between your own accounts appear twice, once out of one account and once into the other. That's correct per account; just don't double count them in a combined analysis.
- Requested older statements expire. Download them within 7 days of the "Ready for Download" status.
- Statement dates you changed. If you moved your statement date, one period may be shorter or longer than a month. That's not a missing statement.
Converting a Citi statement with Footed
Footed opens the PDF in your browser and sends only the extracted text for parsing (processed in memory, not stored). It reconciles opening balance + extracted transactions = closing balance, and highlights rows that disagree with the printed balances, which is exactly how a mixed-up combined statement gets caught. Export to Excel, CSV or OFX.
FAQ
How do I get Citi statements older than what's listed online? Request them from Older Statements; they're typically ready in 24–72 hours and stay downloadable for 7 days (Citi).
Why does my Citi statement show more than one account? Citi groups accounts onto a common statement based on ownership, titles, paperless settings and address (Citi CDAA). You can sometimes ask to separate them.
Can I convert a Citi credit card statement? Yes; the same converter works, but remember card statements are reversed (purchases increase the balance owed).
Do I need to convert, or can I export? For recent months, Citi Online can download activity for Quicken. For older periods or closed accounts, convert the PDF.
Convert your Citi statement. Footed keeps the PDF in your browser, reconciles each statement against its own balances, and exports Excel, CSV or OFX. Free for 5 pages a day.
