ICICI Bank statement to Excel: download, password and conversion
ICICI Bank lets you download savings account statements for the last four years from Net Banking, as PDF or CSV. If you have Net Banking access, the CSV route may be all you need. This page covers both, plus how to handle the password-protected PDFs that get emailed around so often.
How to download an ICICI Bank statement
From ICICI Bank's statements page (ICICI Bank):
- Log in to Net Banking.
- Go to Bank Accounts > e-Statements > View Detailed Statement.
- Select the date range and download.
ICICI says you can view up to the last 4 years of statements this way, and register for e-statements by email. Its list of Net Banking services includes the Detailed Statement (download PDF and CSV) and e-statements for bank accounts, credit cards, Demat and PPF (download PDF and CSV) (ICICI Bank).
Use the CSV if you can. It's the bank's own data with no conversion step. Convert the PDF when that's what you have: an emailed statement, a client's file, or a statement from before your download window.
Where does the PDF password come from?
ICICI's PDFs are often password-protected, and the format depends on the product:
- Credit card statements: ICICI says the password is the last 4 digits of your credit card number, and it can't be customised or reset (ICICI Bank).
- Savings account statements: ICICI doesn't publish a single format on the pages we checked. Use the instructions in the email or on the download screen that delivered the file, and if you're working on someone else's statement, ask them for it.
Our guide to password-protected bank statements covers opening and unlocking files safely.
What an ICICI statement looks like
ICICI detailed statements use these columns, as documented consistently by several import tools (OwnFi, DataExtract):
| Column | Notes |
|---|---|
| S No. | Row number (not a transaction field) |
| Value Date | Date the entry affected your balance |
| Transaction Date | Date the transaction happened |
| Cheque Number | Often blank or "-" |
| Transaction Remarks | Long UPI/NEFT/IMPS strings |
| Withdrawal Amount (INR) | Money out |
| Deposit Amount (INR) | Money in |
| Balance (INR) | Balance after the row |
Common pitfalls converting ICICI statements
- Two date columns, Value Date first. It's easy to grab the wrong one. Keep both; decide which your books use (usually the transaction date) and use it consistently.
- Overflowing Transaction Remarks. UPI remarks carry reference numbers, names and VPAs and wrap across lines; the S No. sometimes lands on the continuation line. Merge continuation lines into their transaction.
- The serial number column is not an amount. A sloppy extraction can push it into a money column.
- Indian number formatting and INR headings. Strip commas; the "(INR)" in headings isn't data.
- Summary or certificate sections (totals, interest or TDS tables) after the transaction list are not transactions.
The check: opening balance + deposits − withdrawals = closing balance; and every row's Balance = previous Balance + Deposit Amount − Withdrawal Amount.
Converting an ICICI statement with Footed
Footed opens the PDF in your browser. For protected files you enter the password on Footed's page; nothing is uploaded except the extracted text, which is processed in memory and not stored. Footed merges wrapped remarks, ignores the S No. column, and checks every row against ICICI's Balance column, highlighting any row that doesn't agree. Download Excel, CSV or OFX.
