Lloyds Bank statement to Excel or CSV

Lloyds statements are straightforward PDFs, but every transaction carries a short payment-type code, and long references wrap across lines. Get both right and the conversion reconciles cleanly. Here's how to download the statement and what to watch for.

How to download a Lloyds Bank statement

In the Lloyds app (Lloyds Bank):

  1. Log in and select the account you want.
  2. Select the three-dot menu.
  3. Select Download or print statement to save or print it. (For a paper copy, select Order paper statements.)

In Internet Banking, Lloyds says you can view your statement, save it as a PDF or print it, and order a paper statement to arrive by post within 10 working days (Lloyds Bank). The same help page answers how far back statements go and why credit card statements can't be downloaded in online banking; check it for your account type, since availability differs between current accounts and cards.

Download one statement per month (per account) rather than a single long custom range if you can: monthly statements carry the bank's own opening and closing balances, which is what you'll reconcile against.

Reading the payment codes

UK statements label each transaction with a short code. The common ones, as defined by MoneySavingExpert's guide to UK statement abbreviations (MSE):

Code Meaning
BGC Bank Giro Credit (a deposit, often salary via BACS)
DD / DDR Direct Debit
FPI Faster Payment in (received)
FPO Faster Payment out (sent)
SO / STO Standing order

You'll also commonly see codes for card payments, transfers and cash withdrawals. The direction matters more than the code itself: an FPI is money in and an FPO is money out, and they look almost identical in a quick scan.

Common pitfalls converting Lloyds statements

  • FPI vs FPO in the wrong column. If a converter merges the money-in and money-out columns carelessly, faster payments in and out get mixed up. The running balance exposes this immediately: the balance moves the wrong way on that row.
  • The code as a separate column. The payment-type code sits apart from the description. Keep it: it's useful for filtering (all DDs, all FPOs) and it must stay aligned with the right amount.
  • Wrapped references. Long payee references wrap onto a second or third line, and a naive copy turns one transaction into several rows. Merge continuation lines into the transaction above.
  • Brought-forward balance lines at page breaks. These carry the balance between pages and are not transactions.
  • Day-first dates. Check how the year is printed and take it from the statement period if it's missing or abbreviated; keep dates DD/MM when importing into accounting software.

Converting a Lloyds statement with Footed

Footed opens the PDF in your browser and sends only the extracted text for parsing (processed in memory, not stored). It keeps the payment code with each transaction, merges wrapped references, skips brought-forward lines, and reconciles: opening balance + extracted transactions = closing balance, and each row against the printed running balance. Mismatched rows are highlighted. Export Excel, CSV or OFX.
