Revolut statement to Excel or CSV
Revolut can generate statements as Excel as well as PDF, so if you have the app you can usually skip conversion. Two Revolut quirks still matter when you work with the numbers: statements are per currency, and the statement's balance includes pending transactions. Here's how to get what you need and avoid both traps.
How to generate a Revolut statement
From Revolut's help centre (Revolut):
- Go to Home on the bottom menu.
- Below your balance, tap Accounts and select the currency.
- Tap More (…) and select Statement.
- Choose the timeframe and the document type, PDF or Excel, then tap Generate.
A currency statement contains your name and address, your local and international account details (BIC and IBAN), a balance summary, pending, completed and reverted transactions, and Personal and Group Pocket transactions (Revolut). Revolut doesn't issue paper copies or stamp documents; all statements are electronically generated.
Pick Excel if you're going to analyse the data. Pick PDF when someone needs the statement itself (a landlord, a lender, your accountant).
The two Revolut quirks
1. One statement per currency
Statements are generated per currency account. If you hold GBP, EUR and USD, that's three statements with three separate balances. Convert and reconcile each currency separately; don't add a EUR column to a GBP column.
2. The statement balance includes pending transactions
Revolut explains that the currency account statement shows the closing balance (your available funds plus pending transactions), while the app shows available funds only, and that pending transactions appear at the top of the statement (Revolut).
For conversion and reconciliation this means:
- The statement's closing balance won't match the app if anything is pending.
- If you drop the pending rows from your spreadsheet, the statement won't foot.
- Reverted transactions are listed too. Include them exactly as printed (a payment and its reversal) or exclude both; excluding one side breaks the totals.
When you'd convert a Revolut PDF
- Someone sent you the PDF (for example, you're the accountant or the landlord) and you don't have the app.
- You only have older PDFs saved from before, or an account you no longer use.
- You want the PDF and the data to agree exactly. Converting the same PDF you're submitting removes any doubt.
Common pitfalls converting Revolut statements
- Pending rows at the top, which a converter may treat as a header block. They're part of the closing balance.
- Reverted transactions (see above).
- Pockets. Pocket transactions appear in the statement; moves between your main balance and a Pocket are real rows for that statement.
- Multi-currency confusion. Keep each currency in its own file and import each into its own account in your bookkeeping software.
Converting a Revolut statement with Footed
Footed opens the PDF in your browser and sends only the extracted text for parsing (processed in memory, not stored). It keeps pending and reverted rows, then reconciles: opening balance + extracted transactions = closing balance, highlighting any row that disagrees with the printed balances. Export Excel, CSV or OFX.
