TD Bank statement to Excel or CSV (US and Canada)
"TD" covers two different online banking systems: TD Bank in the US and TD Canada Trust's EasyWeb in Canada. Both keep about seven years of PDF statements online. Here's how to get them from each, what TD statements look like inside, and how to convert them so the totals agree.
How to download a TD Bank (US) statement
TD Bank says Online Banking and the mobile app give you 24/7 access to statements, with free online access for up to 7 years to online statements issued on or after April 2010 (TD Bank). Log in, open the statements section for the account, pick the period and download the PDF. TD Bank also notes that Online Banking customers automatically receive paper statements as well unless they turn them off, and that account information can be downloaded directly to Quicken or QuickBooks, which may be simpler than converting for recent months.
How to download a TD Canada Trust (EasyWeb) statement
From TD's EasyWeb tutorial (TD Canada Trust):
- Log in to EasyWeb.
- At the top of the screen, select where it shows the name on the account and choose Statements and Documents.
- Use Get statements & documents by account to pick the account.
- Use Filter by year to choose the period, then select a statement. It opens as a PDF in an overlay.
- Select the save icon or download arrow to keep a copy (TD Canada Trust).
EasyWeb offers up to 7 years of past statements; TD notes that history starts from when you switched to online statements (TD Canada Trust).
What a TD statement looks like
TD's own sample checking statement (from its financial-education materials, TD sample PDF) shows the structure:
- A summary block: Previous Statement Balance as of [date], Plus N Deposits and Other Credits, Less N Checks and Other Debits, Current Statement Balance as of [date], and the number of days in the period.
- Checking Transactions for cleared checks: serial (check) number, date, amount.
- Checking Account Transactions: date, description, and separate Debits and Credits columns.
- Balance by Date: a balance per date, not per transaction.
TD's guide to reading statements also notes that some banks include a running balance column, and that fees may appear in the account summary, the transaction list and/or a separate fee summary (TD Bank).
Common pitfalls converting TD statements
- Checks live in their own table. In TD's sample, cleared checks appear only in the Checking Transactions table (number, date, amount), not in the debits/credits list, yet the summary's "Checks and Other Debits" count includes them. An extraction that reads only the main list misses every check; one that reads both tables must not count a check twice.
- Balance by date, not by row. With one balance per date, check at each date: previous balance + that day's credits − that day's debits = that date's balance.
- Descriptions on two lines (for example "POS Debit 09/15" with the merchant on the next line). Merge them into one transaction.
- Fees in more than one place. If fees appear both in the transaction list and a fee summary, include them once.
The whole-statement check: Previous Statement Balance + Deposits and Other Credits − Checks and Other Debits = Current Statement Balance. The counts ("4 Deposits", "7 Checks") are a free row-count check too.
Converting a TD statement with Footed
Footed opens the PDF in your browser and sends only the extracted text for parsing (processed in memory, not stored). It keeps debits and credits apart, merges wrapped descriptions, and reconciles: previous balance + extracted transactions = current balance, highlighting any row that breaks the chain. Export Excel, CSV or OFX.
FAQ
How far back do TD statements go online? Up to 7 years in both the US (statements issued on or after April 2010) and Canada (from when you switched to online statements).
Can I download TD transactions without converting a PDF? TD Bank (US) supports downloading account information to Quicken or QuickBooks; EasyWeb supports downloading account activity. Use those for recent months; convert PDFs for older ones.
Why does my TD statement show fewer balances than transactions? It shows a balance by date. Several transactions on one day share one balance.
Convert your TD statement. Footed keeps the PDF in your browser and reconciles every statement against TD's own summary. Free for 5 pages a day.
