U.S. Bank statement to Excel or CSV

U.S. Bank delivers e-statements as PDFs inside online and mobile banking and keeps seven years of them. If you have more than one account, they may arrive on a single statement, which is the main thing to plan for when converting. Here's how to get the PDFs and turn them into a spreadsheet that reconciles.

How to download a U.S. Bank statement

From U.S. Bank's help articles (how to view and download, paperless documents):

In online banking 1. Select Accounts from the top menu (or My accounts > My documents > Statements). 2. Choose the document type (statements). 3. Pick the account from the dropdown, and change the document year for older statements. 4. Select the statement link to view, print or download it.

In the U.S. Bank Mobile App 1. From the main menu choose Statements & docs (or select the account, tap Account options, then View statements docs). 2. Choose the account and statement date.

Things to know

  • Up to seven years of e-statements are available in digital banking.
  • Your latest e-statement appears after the billing cycle closes.
  • Certificates of deposit don't have regular statements; they generate maturity notices and an end-of-year interest statement.
  • U.S. Bank doesn't email statements for security reasons; you download them from digital banking (U.S. Bank).
  • Ordering mailed copies may carry a fee; downloading is the free route (U.S. Bank).

How U.S. Bank statements are laid out

  • E-statements are PDFs with images of written checks (U.S. Bank).
  • Multiple accounts on one statement. If you have more than one account, U.S. Bank sends one statement with the details of each account. The primary account number is in the upper-right corner of each page; other account numbers appear to the right of each account's name. With a single account, the number is in the upper-right corner of page one (U.S. Bank).
  • Going paperless can split statements. U.S. Bank notes that after switching, you receive a separate e-statement for each checking, savings or money market account, and summary information for CDs, loans and cards no longer appears on your statement (U.S. Bank). So older paper-era PDFs and newer e-statements may be shaped differently.

Common pitfalls converting U.S. Bank statements

  • Treating a multi-account statement as one account. Each account section has its own beginning and ending balance. Split by account and reconcile each separately.
  • Summary sections for other products. Older combined statements may include summary information for CDs, loans or cards. Those are summaries, not transactions in the checking account.
  • Check images pages. Pages of check images carry check numbers and amounts that duplicate the transaction list. Exclude them from the extraction.
  • Shape changes over time. If you're converting several years, expect at least two layouts (before and after paperless). Reconcile every statement rather than assuming one format.

Converting a U.S. Bank statement with Footed

Footed reads the PDF in your browser and sends only the extracted text for parsing (processed in memory, not stored). Its AI parsing doesn't depend on a fixed template, so a layout change between years doesn't break it. Each conversion is reconciled: beginning balance + extracted transactions = ending balance, plus row-by-row checks where a running balance is printed, with mismatches highlighted. Export Excel, CSV or OFX.
