Wise statement to Excel or CSV
Wise is the friendliest account on this list for data export: on the web you can download statements as PDF, XLSX, CSV, MT940, QIF or CAMT.053. So the first job is picking the right format. The second is knowing Wise's limits (365 days per statement, one statement per currency or jar). Converting a PDF is only worth it in a few situations, covered at the end.
How to download a Wise statement
From Wise's help centre (Wise):
From a currency or jar 1. Click the currency or jar. 2. Select the three dots in the top-right corner. 3. Select Statements and reports (Statement of fees is a separate document). 4. Choose the document type and confirm with your Wise password.
From the home screen 1. Click your initials in the top corner. 2. Select Statements and reports, then Statements. 3. Use Create a statement to choose currencies or jars, period, file format and language. For accounting statements, you can tick a box to show fees separately.
Formats: on the web, PDF, XLSX (Excel), CSV, MT940, QIF or CAMT.053 (version 10). In the app, PDF, CSV and XLSX (Wise).
Limits: each statement covers up to 365 days. For longer periods, download several statements. You can select multiple currencies and jars at once; large requests arrive as a zip by email. Statements include only transactions made through Wise currency accounts; for everything including transfers paid by other methods, download a list from the Transactions page (CSV or PDF, also up to 365 days, web only) (Wise).
Official copies: tick Stamp and sign this document at the bottom of the statement screen; Wise may need to verify your address first (Wise).
Which format should you choose?
| You want to… | Choose |
|---|---|
| Analyse in Excel or Google Sheets | XLSX or CSV |
| Import into accounting software | Wise's accounting export, or MT940/CAMT.053 if your software supports those bank formats. Wise lists software including DATEV, Lexware, Visma eAccounting, Sage 100 France and MYOB (Wise) |
| Import into Xero | QIF or CSV (Xero QIF import) |
| Send to a landlord, lender or embassy | PDF, optionally stamped and signed |
When converting a Wise PDF makes sense
- You received the PDF from someone else and don't have their Wise login.
- You're reconciling the PDF someone submitted and want data that matches that exact document.
- You only kept PDFs from an earlier period.
Common pitfalls with Wise data (exported or converted)
- One currency, one statement. Multi-currency accounts produce one statement per currency or jar. Keep them separate and reconcile each against its own balance.
- Fees. Decide whether fees are shown within transactions or separately (the accounting option) and be consistent across periods, or month-to-month totals won't compare.
- Conversions between currencies appear as money out of one currency and money in to another at different amounts. That's correct; don't net them.
- The 365-day cap. A full tax year that doesn't line up with a calendar window needs two statements; make sure they don't overlap or leave a gap.
Converting a Wise PDF with Footed
Footed opens the PDF in your browser and sends only the extracted text for parsing (processed in memory, not stored). Each conversion is reconciled against the statement's opening and closing balances, with any mismatched row highlighted. Export Excel, CSV or OFX.
